2012 Elections: Lok Rajniti Manch releases code of conduct

[हिंदी] Lok Rajniti Manch had organized a political meeting on 7th January 2012 which was attended by members of Lok Rajniti Manch, Samajwadi Jan Parishad, Socialist Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Jan Sangharsh Morcha, Sajha Sanskriti Manch, Varanasi and some individuals. Prominent among those who attended were Dr. B.D. Sharma, Pannalal Surana, S.R. Darapuri, Dr Sandeep Pandey, Lal Bahadur Singh, Ajit Jha, J.P. Singh, Onkar Singh, Girish Pandey, Anup Gupta, Uma Shankar Mishra, R.K. Agarwal and K.K. Sharma. Code of conduct for candidates supported by the Lok Rajniti Manch in forthcoming elections was agreed upon.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR ELECTIONS - issued by Lok Rajniti Manch -

1. The candidate should have a background of social activism. After winning or losing elections she or he should continue to work on issues related to common people just as before. This implies that election will be fought based upon the socially relevant work done by the candidate.

2. The candidate will spend as less money as possible in fighting the election. She or he will not be flamboyant or extravagant. Election will be fought by taking donations from the people. Complete transparency will be observed in accounts.

3. There will be no significant change in the lifestyle of the candidate if she or he wins the election. The candidate should remain easily accessible and be available for the people just like before.

4. Election canvassing will be done more through people to people contact instead of resorting to expensive ways of campaigning.

5. Only the vehicles used by the members of the social organization will be used for election campaigning.

6. Votes will not be sought by giving any incentive or any kind of threat.

7. The candidate will not keep any weapon for her or his protection and even after winning will not arrange weapons for her or his protection.

8. The candidate will not use any professional people or ways for election campaigning. For example, paying to get the news published in the newspaper is one such activity.

9. People should engage in election campaigning for a candidate with the feeling of support instead of getting paid for it.

10. The election will be contested on common people’s issues and not based on religion, caste or any such factor.
