This Podcast presents our conversation with Dr Tara Singh Bam, who was part of Nepal government
delegation at the global tobacco treaty negotiations (formally called
the 8th Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on
Tobacco Control). He is also the Deputy Regional Director at the
International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease or The
Union. He also spoke about the importance of the forthcoming 3rd Summit
of Asia Pacific Cities Alliance for tobacco control and prevention of
non-communicable diseases or AP-CAT in Singapore later this week.
Government of South Africa and other 180 governments who met at the global tobacco treaty negotiations had mandated a research study on new tobacco products, like heat-not-burn, which pose a threat to public health - particularly to children. But world’s biggest tobacco company launched these so-called alternatives to tobacco smoking in South Africa.
Thanks
