2nd Annual Global Media Forum in lead up to World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW 2022)

[watch the recording on YouTube, Facebook] Media representatives are welcomed to attend the 2nd Annual Global Media Forum in lead up to World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) 2022 to have a direct interface with senior experts from the quadripartite organizations that have united to address one of the top threats to global health security - Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). These quadripartite organizations include: the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, founded as OIE).
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites no longer respond to antimicrobial agents. As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial agents become ineffective and infections become difficult or impossible to treat, increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness and death. Drug-resistant infections are threatening not only human health but also animal health, livelihoods, and food safety worldwide. The multisectoral One Health approach, which recognises the interconnection between people, animals, plants and environment, is key to tackling AMR.
World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW)

The theme of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW 2022: 18-24 November 2022) is “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together.” Celebrated annually, the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week aims to increase awareness of antimicrobial resistance and to encourage best practices among the policy makers, health workers and general public, to avoid further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

The 2nd Annual Global Media Forum is being organised to support media understanding and communications on antimicrobial resistance. People from global media community, including those from news wires, print, electronic, online, bloggers, social media influencers, freelancers, among others, all are welcome.
